Premier Brain

Dr. Shadick has had great success using a Brain-Based Approach to his treatments utilizing Physical Medicine and Functional Neurology. Whether you have been referred to Premier Brain & Body by your Orthopedic Specialist, Neurologist, Physical Therapist, General Chiropractor, Personal Trainer, Coach, or Friend, there is a great chance we may be able to improve your neurological function and performance and decrease your pain.

There is no “one size fits all” here at Premier, as every patient has their own personal history and set of circumstances.

Our most compromised patients receive a thorough neurological examination where we assess the key systems involved in brain health: Oculomotor, Vestibular, Proprioceptive, Autonomic, Pain, Cognitive. By identifying the areas of your brain and body suffering from injury we can be more precise in our therapeutic interventions.

Our goal is to optimize patient’s health by reintegrating the areas of dysfunction between the brain and the body. Using neuroplasticity to unlock the brains amazing capacity to grow, change, and adapt, we help our patients regain self-autonomy and independence.

conditions we commonly work with

  • Visual issues, mood changes, weakness in extremities

Brain injuries

  • Typically triggered by the visual system or specific head movements that affect the brain and       vestibular system

  • Combination of visual, vestibular, proprioceptive, and cognitive neural networks

  • Symptoms: spinning, feeling unsteady, nausea, dizziness, difficulty focusing

Vertigo

  • Types: cognitive, ocular-motor, headache/migraine, vestibular, anxiety/mood

  • Symptoms: typically headache, dizziness, nausea, blurred vision

  • Changes in the digestive system (GI) and limbic system (emotion) are common

Concussion

Dysautonomia

  • Cause: dysfunction in the autonomic nervous system that controls heart rate and blood pressure

  • Symptoms: fainting/lightheadedness, heart racing, nausea/brain fog

  • Can be congenital (born with it) or it can develop at any point during life (commonly after infection)

Headaches

  • Cause: poor posture, stress, lack of nutrition, dehydration, and poor sleep habits

  • Several types, tension headaches are most common

  • Can be pain in the head and/or face

migraines

  • Symptoms: intense pain in the head and/or face, nausea, and dizziness

  • Commonly associated with a sensitivity to light and sound

  • Can last a couple of hours or persist for days

Migraines Graphic.png

Post-Concussion syndrome

  • Persistent concussion symptoms lasting longer than usual, sometimes even years

  • Can cause dizziness, headaches, fatigue, and memory issues

  • Visual processing issues are very common, and commonly overlooked

whiplash injuries

  • Cause: a quick acceleration and deceleration of the head/neck

  • Symptoms: neck pain, stiffness, headaches, tingling, dizziness, fatigue

  • Blurry vision, motion induced dizziness, irritability, and difficulty concentrating

Motor vehicle accident injuries

  • Whiplash is the most common type of injury from car accidents

  • Symptoms include neck pain, stiffness, headaches, tingling, dizziness, fatigue

  • Pain, motion induced dizziness, irritability, and difficulty concentrating

radiating pain/ numbness/tingling

  • When a nerve is mechanically irritated, a chemical reaction occurs creating acidic tissue for the nerve to bath in

  • This causes peripheral sensitization that can progress to central sensitization

  • Early intervention aimed at changing the mechanoreceptor afferents and the nociceptive input from these damaged tissue helps limit the pain experience

Radiating Pain.png

chronic PAIN

  • Causes decreased representation of that area in the somatosensory cortex

  • Promotes neurogenic inflammation which is associated in the pain processes of soft tissues including muscles, tendons, ligaments, and skin

  • Can lead to a significant decrease in quality of life
